El Cubano

A 34 year old prospect you said?! Why yes, he happens to be quite old for only having four fights in his MMA career.  Luckily he happens to have been wrestling his whole life, including a silver medal in the Olympics.  His brother is also a world champion boxing, and being from Cuba, boxing is a very popular sport in many homes.  He happened to defect (That word is so cool and rare these days) and now resides in Germany...i don't know why.  So he is a stereotypical athletic and explosive fighter, but he truly may be one of the most gifted athletes in all of MMA.  Who else can do what he did in that .gif! He'll be fighting at Strikeforce on Saturday night, and this card is absolutely stacked from top to bottom, so if you can watch it, do so. He'll be fighting a former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion in Feijao Calvacante, but he should be able to win despite the fact.

New Breed

So it was tough to find a "prospect" with an upcoming fight and then I checked the Fight Night card on the 17th. Low and behold Erik is going to be fighting the TUF winner Jonathan Brookins that night.  We got ourselves a finisher here, 12 wins, 10 by way of KO/Submission.  His lone loss was a lay and pray to Chad Mendes...(who doesn't he grind out for three rounds?)  If the gifs are any indication, he recently began starching dudes, and I'm A-okay with that. He trains at Roufusport with Anthony Pettis and a bevy of other top quality guys, so he has all the pieces in place to go....places....

Man amongst lesser men.

So it's a few days removed from UFC 134 and it really was a great bunch of fights, and it was cool to see a Brazilian crowd be so passionate about the fights.  Anderson thoroughly outclassed Okami, which wasn't really that big of a surprise(gif one & two).  He continues to show why he is The best fighter in the world, which is a pretty cool title to have if I do say so myself.  In a fight that certainly didn't go as expected, Mintauro Nogueira (the grappling/jui-jitsu guy) defied biological processes and chronic blunt force trauma to absolutely starch the younger, bigger, stronger, faster fighter in Brenden Schaub(gif three).
